Labor Unions Emerge PG. 67

Bodies of dead seamstresses who jumped from the burning Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. http://goo.gl/HVuh7

  1. Based upon what I have read, labor unions were good people because ... they made good working conditions, higher pay, and they wanted to stop child labor.
  2. The triangle shirtwaist company was a sweatshop in which 146 seamstresses died because they jumped ut of a nine story building . These deaths could have been prevented if they had good wokring conditions.
  3. Monopolists did not want unions because they they were trying to take pay the workers more and for less hours. Union members did not like scabs because the tycoons were taking advanage of the workers  .
  4. Many factory and sweatshop owners disliked the vision of unions like the IWW because they gave dignity and soildarity to unskilled workers and afiican americans.

Major Events before the Civil War

1. Around 1858 , the united states was divided geographically - north and south - With the South They  depending on slavory and farms. The North depended on factorys.

2. The country was so divided by slavery, california needed the compromise of 1850 to let new states decide slavery through popular sovergnity.
Around this time the southern states were seriously considering  seccesion.
Many people from the North hated slavery, because the condutors of the underground railroad hid the slaves in tunnels
When Uncle Tom's Cabin was published, it stirred the northeren abolitionists & southern's citizined and thought it was an attack.
Two Politicians became famous for their slavery debates, douglas was a two term senator and Lincoln was a congressman. Both their positions were simple and consistent  they both challenged each other .
" On December 20, 1860 the south secceed and the first state was south carolina amd all the other southern states followed."

Post Election Analysis with Esteban Sosa

Marijuana Legalization in Colorado and Washington

Cite examples of "Supreme Law of the Land"
In the article, "supreme law of the land" was here:
"Marijuana is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government, which overrules states' rights"
Cite examples of "federal vs. state authority"
One example of "federal vs. state authority," is the same situation: legalization of marijuana. The state labeled this drug under "illegal." In the article, it says,
"That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug, so don't break out the Cheetos or goldfish too quickly."
But the Constitution says we have a freedom of expression, and that's one way people have."

What was the "compromise" that helped to pass the referendum in Washington? How do you think this compromise would affect demand for the product?
"The compromise that helped pass the referendum in Washington was the high tax on marijuana. In the article, it says, "
"Analysts had projected the Washington voters would approve their legalization ballot, because it proposes a heavy tax for marijuana that made the proposal attractive to budget hawks."
Why was Oregon's referendum not passed?
Oregon's referendum was not passed because people thought the power would go to the growers, not the overseers. In the article, it says,

"Voters shot down a third legalization referendum, in Oregon, which was expected. Analysts had projected that it wouldn't go through and criticized various aspects of the initiative, especially the fact that it would have handed most of the regulating power in the marijuana industry to the growers rather than independent overseers."

Dear Dairy,
Today was a good day I couldnt wait to get off of work i was so exicted to go see my boyfriend in the forest. My boyfriend i have to hide to see eachother because he is a white man and i am native american. So meet secretly in forest almost everyday after i get off of work we stay there for hours just talking sometime will even stay till the sun rises. He explains to me about what he has herd about the goverment and how they only want to benfit themselves.A man named John Locke created natural rights, all men are supposed to be equal, but they aren’t. It’s only the rich white men in power, and they plan to keep it that way by means of a thing called popular sovereignty. Popular sovereignty is a system of voting and the majority rules. My boyfriend is tried of hiding our relationship he wnts come forward with it but he does not want anyone to get hurt.

Today was a very unusual day of October 12,1492.Very pail faces came to us. They were on a large wooden village on the water. The Lokono and I swam to them and we welcomed them with water, food, and necklaces that I had made from the seashells I found the night before. They came and all they said to the Chief that they were looking for something that would make us rich. The Chief let them stay in our village. The next day we woke up before the sun came up my family and I woke up to go hunt for the pail faces one of them was named Christopher Columbus he was the “Chief”.
